Lincoln City's Coho Oceanfront Lodge invites Portlanders to enjoy a spectacular getaway

Sometimes blustery, other times sun drenched, and always glorious, the Oregon Coast is one of the most popular escapes for Portlanders who want a delicious change of scenery.

Just a two-hour drive through Oregon's famed wine country, Lincoln City, Ore., is a captivating destination for families and lovers who want to share some time laughing on the beach, poking their fingers in tide pools and trying to harness wind-bucking kites.

Upon arrival, there's no need to settle for a weather-beaten cabin with a fierce draft and a sandy floor – although there's plenty of those. I checked in to the newly renovated Coho Oceanfront Lodge, a perfect hybrid of family-friendly lodging and a quiet, intimate hideaway for couples set on a romantic cliff.

The Coho's recent multimillion-dollar construction and renovation project expanded the oceanfront property to 65 suites and rooms – 14 of them in a brand new south wing, which is relegated to adults. The latter features whirlpool bathtubs with shutters that open to reveal views of the surf. Other amenities include gas fireplaces, luxury linens, plush beds, spa robes, 32-inch HDTVs and, for those who can't quite get all the way away: Wi-Fi throughout the property.

Its other sections offer spacious, family vacation rooms, including pet-friendly rooms on the first floor. Some suites in the two renovated buildings have wood bunk beds, electronic game stations and child-size red furniture, while parents have their own, adjacent rooms. Some rooms have dishes and appliances for dining in, and binoculars in all the rooms for spying on gulls.

Lincoln City, Ore. (May 15, 2009) - The Coho Oceanfront Lodge (formerly the Coho Inn) unveiled completion of a multimillion-dollar guestrooms renovation. “With the renovation and repositioning, it is today a newly transformed oceanfront lodge offering the warm comforts of a home away from home, and the understated luxuries of a distinguished boutique hotel,” says Rob Lee, the director of operations at The Coho Oceanfront Lodge.

Led by a renowned interior designer, Ankrom Moisan Architects (www.amaa.com), the redesign of The Coho has restored this locally owned and operated hotel into a fresh, modern retro boutique that captures the beach palette, while bringing alive the coastal flavors.

“It always had amazing views, and after thorough research, careful planning and several million dollars, The Coho has been reborn and today is considered one of the best hotels along the Pacific Coast,” says Tim Crenshaw, the hotel manager.

The Coho’s modernized and contemporary guestrooms now feature plush amenities and finishes such as gas fireplaces, 32-inch LCD HDTV, HD DVD players, Ipod docking-station clock radios, Lumicor glass panels, imported tiles from Italy, comfortable deep-seated lounge chairs, and colorful photographs of sea corals and other sea life.

Along with the facilities renovation, there will be a multitude of upcoming expanded services at The Coho, including in-room massage by Back in Touch, wine tasting/social hours, gourmet coffee service with daily fresh-ground Sisters Brewing Coffee, and free homemade cookies available in the lobby.

The Coho is also undertaking an expansion in June 2009, which will add 14 oceanfront rooms and suites, a lookout deck with fire pits and seating area, and a public lookout park to the south of the existing facilities.
